The 1850 census revealed Jane L was a widow and was born in South Carolina. Her real estate value was $6925 and she was living in Abbeville, Abbeville County, South Carolina. Household members: Jane L (50), William A (20), Thomas W (18), Louisa J (16), Ione (13) and seventeen boarders. Her widowed mother, Mary lived next door.

The 1860 census revealed Jane was a farmer and her real estate value was $4,000. Household members: Jane (60), William (30), T W (28) and Sallie (20).

The 1860 Slave census revealed Jane Allen owned fifteen slaves ranging from age two to fifty-two years.

The 1860 (Productions of Agriculture of Indian Hill, Abbeville County, S.C.) revealed Jane owned 100 acres of improved land, 200 acres of unimproved land, valued at $1500. She owned 2 horses, 2 milk cows, 3 cattle, 15 swine, valued at $350.

Jane lived to age 65.
