Vivian Baker, 81, formerly of Merkel, died Monday, December 8, 2008 in a Fort Worth hospital. Services will 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 10th at Acton United Methodist in Granbury with Reverend Don Kelley officiating.

Burial will be at 4:00 PM in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel with Reverend Greg Kennedy officiating.

Vivian was born October 14, 1927 in Fort Worth to Deward E. and Jewell (Shaw) Lively. She married J. R. Baker October 10, 1948 in Abilene. He preceded her in death April 5, 2000.

Vivian graduated from Merkel High School. She was a former member of Merkel First United Methodist Church and a current member of Acton United Methodist Church. She also sang in the choir at both churches. Vivian was the first female letter carrier in Abilene and was also log librarian for the Perini Log Library. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, garden, paint and cook.

Survivors include two sons, Claude Baker and wife, Katherine of Aurora, CO, John Baker III of Abilene; daughter, Lee Ann Nied and husband, Glen of Midlothian; daughter-in-law, Frances Baker of Abilene; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Acton United Methodist Church, 3433 Fall Creek Highway, Granbury, TX 76049.
