Charles P. Litton, a carpenter living in Atlanta, Georgia, was last listed in the Atlanta directory in 1894 in spite of his death in Marion County, Florida in 1888 (the death year on his gravestone). At one time he worked for Traynham & Ray, makers of sashes, windows and doors. (One of his employers, William L. Traynham, owned Dixie Lumber & Mfg Co at 549 Peachtree in Atlanta).

Litton was the son of Miles O. Litton and Martha E. Osborne, residents of Talladega, Alabama. His father is listed as a carpenter in the 1850 US Census and was not found by this researcher in any censuses after that year.

His sisters, all born in Talladega, Alabama, were:
Ada, b. 22 May, 1845 d. 4 Nov 1889 Texas
Emma, b. 17 Mar, 1848, d. 18 Oct 1871
Ella Mae, her twin, b. 17 Mar 1848 d. 1882
Annie, b. 25 Sept 1856 d. 26 Nov 1898

Litton didn't seem to have any familial relation to the William T. Hickson family of Orange Lake, Florida and it has long been a mystery to Hickson descendants, cousins and others why he was buried in the Hickson's small family cemetery. He might have been working as a carpenter on the Hickson house in Orange Lake when he died and perhaps it was more practical to bury him in the Hickson's cemetery instead of in a cemetery near his residence in Atlanta. Perhaps he had become a resident of Florida by the time of his death.
