Robert D. Littlejohn, age 84, of New carlisle passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2008 in the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
Bob was born on December 13, 1923 in Jackson Township, Champaign County, Ohio. He was a son of the late Emerson L. and Mildred (Coble) Littlejohn. He married Lieuminta Joan Furrow Group and she preceded him in death on September 6, 1986.
Bob is survived by on son, David K. Littlejohn of New Carlisle, three daughters, Roberta L. Anderson of Troy, Amy (Doug) Fritz and Lisa Ward, both of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother, Roy M. Littlejohn of Seneca Falls, NY and one sister, Janice Gilday of New Hampshire. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Keith Littlejohn on November 25, 1974 and one brother, William David Littlejohn.
Bob was a 1942 graduate of Christiansburg-Jackson High School and he served in World War II in the Army Air Force as an aviation cadet. Bob was a charter member of the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 12 years. He retired in 1979 after 37 years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he worked as a crew chief and mechanic. Bob belonged to the American Legion Post #286, New Carlisle, and was a member of the 40/8 and he also belonged to AmVets Post #88 of Troy.
Bob raised and exhibited Berkshire swine all his life. He served on the Champaign County Pork Producers board for over 30 years and was a member of the Champaign County Fair Board from 1961 until 1997. Bob was a member of Olivet Chapter #226 Free and Accepted Masons of Christiansburg receiving his 50 year pin in 1990. He also received his 50 year pin in 1991 for the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton. Bob was a member of the Troy Fish and Game Club and a life member of the NRA. Bob will be fondly remembered by his many good friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the ATKINS-SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with Reverend Dick Donovan presiding. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery with military honors by AmVets Post #88.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Olivet Chapter #226 F. and A.M., Christiansburg will hold Masonic services at 8:00 p.m. following the visitation. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Christiansburg Fire Dept., P.O. Box #300, Christiansburg, Ohio 45389 of the Troy AmVets Post #88, 3449 LeFevre Road, Troy, Ohio 45373. Envelopes will be availiable in the funeral home.
