Lola Mae Autry
Lola Mae Autry, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008. She was well loved and returned that love in abundance.
While living life to the fullest, she never lost sight of the eternal love of her Saviour. She lived this life with the blessed hope of eternity in His presence. Lola Mae was born to W.M. Lineberry Sr. and Alice Lineberry in Memphis on May 1, 1916. She graduated from Memphis State University and married the Rev. E.A. Autry in 1941. They moved to rural Benton County soon after marrying, where they began a life of ministry together. The Rev. Autry was the pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church, and Lola Mae worked alongside him as a Sunday school teacher, choir director, organist and pianist.
Over the years Lola Mae became well-known in the area as an artist, photographer, lecturer, musician, author and teacher. In fact, up until the time of her death, she was teaching 22 piano students and was serving in her 62nd year as the organist at Pine Grove Baptist Church. She also loved to travel, with most of her travels revolving around mission work.
Even more, she loved returning to the peace and quietness of her beloved Whippoorwill Valley where she could pray, write, dream and minister. Lola Mae was recognized with various awards and honors over the years, but perhaps the most fitting award was a recent one. Blue Cross Blue Shield named her a statewide "Ageless Hero", which is how she will be remembered by many.
Lola Mae is survived by a daughter, Martha Crawford (Ray); a son, Lanny Autry (Deborah); a stepson, James A. Autry (Sally); eight grandchildren, Clint Crawford (Tracy), Amy Williams (Ken), Susan Currier (Joe), Ronald Autry, Jimmy Autry, Ricky Autry (Lynn), John Autry (Dee) and Susan Goldenberg (Ira); 13 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Al Lineberry Sr. (Helen) and Frederick Lineberry (Shirley); a sister, Neysa McDowell; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Lineberry; and countless other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. E.A. Autry; a son, Jerry; a stepson, Ronald (Susie); two brothers, W.M. Lineberry Jr. (Spratt) and Clifford Lineberry; and a brother-in-law, Jack McDowell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial following in Pine Grove Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
