Hazel B. Bast, 86, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, peacefully slipped away from this life on Oct. 13, 2006 surrounded by family. She was born on Feb. 17, 1920 at Underwood, Minn. to Arthur and Aura Belle Linderman. She married Herman Bast on May 14, 1939 in Waverly, Iowa. They had two children, Bonnie and Larry. They moved from Cedar Falls, Iowa to Spokane, Wash. in 1952, and lived there for 49 years. Hazel attended nursing school and became a LPN at the age of 50. She worked for several years in labor and delivery at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. After retirement, Herman and Hazel became snowbirds, traveling to Mesa, Ariz. for the winters. After Herman's death in May, 2001, Hazel moved to Richland, Washington to be near her son and daughter-in-law. In May, 2005 she moved to Boise, Idaho to be near her daughter and granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 62 years Herman; her grandson Dean M. Rosengrant; her parents; brother; and sister. Hazel is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Jerry) Rosengrant of Council Idaho; her son Larry (Donna) Bast of Amarillo, Texas, her granddaughters DeeDee (Ken) Schwartz of Meridian Idaho; Lori Bast of Black Diamond Wash.; her grandsons Eric (Angie) Rosengrant of Council, Idaho and Patrick (Mary) Bast of Burleson, Texas. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Matt Schwartz of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Cory and Jared Schwartz of Meridian, Idaho; Jordan, Ryan and Brett Rosengrant of Council, Idaho; and Sarah, Brittany and Eric Bast as well as her great-granddaughter Hailey Bast of Burleson, Texas. She is also survived by many dear friends. The family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Stan Eisele and the staff at St. AI's Telemetry. A memorial service and interment will be held at the Mausoleum at Pines Cemetery in Spokane, Washington on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Hazel's memory to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Society of Idaho. Until we meet again. We love you grandma. You are forever in our hearts.
