MISSOULA – Edna Merle Bond passed away April 22, 2013.
Born on her parents' homestead at Roundup on March 26, 1917, she was the youngest daughter of Carl M. and Margaret E. (Gibbs) Linderman. She was their last surviving child.
Moving with her family from Roundup to St. Ignatius in 1926, she completed her elementary and secondary education, graduating with the class of 1934 from St. Ignatius High School. She later received her two-year teaching certificate from Western Montana College at Dillon. She received her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Montana.
She taught school at Lakeview in the Centennial Valley and later at Moiese, where she met her future husband, Gordon E. Bond.
They were united in marriage on June 25, 1939, at the St. Ignatius Methodist Church. The Bonner-Missoula area became their home in 1943. Her husband Gordon preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1992.
During her professional career, she held every office in the Missoula County Education Association and was a charter member and first president of the Eta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa degreed teachers' honorary society.
She retired from teaching in June 1979 when she was teaching at Target Range School. She taught there for 26 years.
Merle is survived by one daughter, Judith E. Whitcraft of Kennewick, Wash.; one son, Gary G. Bond; one grandson, two granddaughters and their families.
She was also preceded in death by her son Edwin; brothers Charles Linderman and Edwin Linderman; and sister Edith.
At Merle's request, a twilight service will take place at Sunset Memorial Cemetery on Mullan Road. Family and close friends may join together at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Chairs will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Humane Society of Western Montana.
