KATHRYN L. "KAY" ANDRIST, was born in a one room log cabin near Priest Lake, Idaho during a blizzard the night of January 23, 1920. The famly relocated to Addy, Washington where Kay and her four brothers grew up on the family farm.
Kay attended shool in Colville and studied architecture at WSU. After World War II she married Charles G. Andrist and he opened a veterinary clinic in Chewelah where they raised four children.
Kay dedicated her life to public service. With her training in architecture, Kay designed a monumnet for the city park on behalf of the Kiwanis club. During the 1960's she operated the community's emergency civil defense radio system. She was active in 4-H, Boy and Girl Schouts, Jobs Daughters and served as PTA president. Kay sponsored a resource center on her property for county residents with mental health challenges. In Community Celebrations she helped to build floats and get marching bands, kids and horses to the Lilac Parade. Kay was a dedicated member of the Eastern Star, Soroptomists, Daughter of the Nile and was an active fund raiser for Shriners Hospital. In Soroptomists Kay helped to organize the "Mayfly" for school students. She served as Precinct Officer for over 30 years and was active in local politics.
With her daughter Maggie at her bedside, Kathryn Andrist passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 7, 2011 at St. Joseph Long Term Care. Kay is preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard, Byron, Charles and Bill Lind, her husband, Dr. Charles Andrist and her daughters Alice Miller and Mary Remitz. She is survived by her son, Alan Andrist of Kenmore, WA, her daughter Maggie Kineman of Seattle, Wa, her grandsons; Craig Allison of Chewelah, Stopher Andrist of Woodinville, Wa, Morgan Andrist of Kenmore, WA, Emmett Kineman of Seattle and Duane Miller; her granddaughters Kira Gonzalez of Everett, Wa, Ally Kineman and Madelyn Kineman of Seattle, WA, Kay also had 4 great grandchildren.
Remembrances can be made to the St. Joseph Long Term Care facility in her memory.
