Lucy Jean Highfill
Lucy Jean Highfill, daughter of the late Gene and Nellie (Hudson) Lillegard, was born on June 21, 1930 in Warsaw, Mo., and departed this life on January 16, 2011 in her home near Fair Grove, Mo. she was at the time of her passing 80 years, six months, and 25 days of age.
Lucy grew up in the Buffalo, Missouri area and graduated from Buffalo High School. She was united in marriage to Jim Highfill on March 25, 1950, and to this union two children were born, both of whom survive her. Lucy worked in the Buffalo Welfare office, and then for Mutal of Omaha. When her first child was born, she became a fulltime mother and worked side by side with her husband on the family dairy farm. Lucy and Jim loved to fish together, but after retiring from the dairy business they were too busy traveling and going on several bus tours together. Lucy also enjoyed cross-stitching, and she was a longtime MSU Lady Bears fan.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; and three brothers, Virgil, Gerald, and Donald Lillegard. She is survived by one son, Dennis Highfill, of Buffalo, Mo.; one daughter, Denita and husband Don Kent, of Marshfield, Mo.; one brother, Floyd Lillegard, of Monett, Mo.; one sister, Elva Smith, of Springfield, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Ashlea Highfill, of Springfield, Mo.; as well as many other family members and friends who will all truly miss her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Chapel. Escorts will be Jimmy Potter, Kenny Bacon, Verle Bacon, Eddie Mallard, Jim Stanton, Richard Icenhower, and Heath Anderjaska. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery under the direction of the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Oxford Healthcare and left with the funeral home.
