Obituary from the Douglas County Herald, June 3, 2004: "Charlie L. Lietch, 82. Charlie L. Lietch, 2, Ava, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Cox Medical Center South, surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 16, 1922, at McClurg, the son of Oscar and Mary Ellen (Jennings) Lietch. On Feb. 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Chestene Turner and this union was blessed with three children.
Charlie proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army from October 21, 1942, to Jan. 15, 1946.
He was a talented and well-known carpenter, and built several local area homes. During retirement, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and making gifts for his family and friends. He spent special times helping his children and always wanted the family to be near him.
He was preceded in death by both parents, one sister, and one great-grandson.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Chestene, of the home; one son, Kenny Lietch and wife, Michele, of Marshfield; two daughters, Carl Herd and husband, Gary, of Thornfield, and Marsha Miller and husband, Larry Joe, of Ava; one brother, Bill Lietch and wife, Carol, of Ava; one sister, Margie Phipps and husband, Leslie, of Aurora, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Edythe Applegate of Ozark, and Helen Turner, of Ava; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many caring friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 28, at the First General Baptist Church, with a nephew, the Rev. Jerry Applegate, and the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Arrangements were under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Tabor Cemetery Fund at Barnes Family Funeral Home."
