Marlene Lewis Benn, age 77, passed on into eternal glory on January 1, 2011 surrounded by love ones. Marlene was a native New Orleanian. She was a loving and faithful wife who is survived by her devoted husband, Mr. Charlie Benn, Sr. MARLENE which means "tower" in Hebrew lived up to her name. She was a pillar of strength for her family and community. For all those that knew her, her life speaks for itself. She was light to all those that had the pleasure of knowing her. Her motto was, "let your light so shine that all men may see your good works." She was an avid reader, researcher and philosopher. Marlene was known among her family and friends as a lady of good character, grace and charm. She followed the word of GOD in her every-day life. She was a woman of truth and conviction. Loving Mother of Charlie Benn, Jr., Paris Glenn Benn, Angelo Anthony Benn, of Atlanta, Georgia, Deon Benn-Ejekhine of Lagos, Nigeria, Patrice Benn-Abbey, Rhonda Benn-Lewis, Nina Lynn Benn and Stella Benn Haydel. Grandmother of Kafka Benn, Sr., Aristotle Benn, of Atlanta, Georgia, Charla Benn Caldwell, of Houston, Texas, the late Bevin Benn, Nina Benn, of Houston, Texas, Gloria Abbey, Kia Sanders, of Houston, Texas, Alexander and Marcus Lewis, Ezekiel Ejekhine, and Gigi and Brie Haydel. Great-grandmother of Kafka Benn, Jr. and Clarke Caldwell. Daughter of the late Edna Glenn Antoine and the late Paris Lewis, Sr., and step daughter of Jessie Antoine, Sr.; sister of Paris Lewis, Jr., Myra Lewis Wiggins, Jessie Antoine, Jr. and Clayton Antoine, of Mobile, Alabama. Mother-in-law of Maria Benn, Daniel Ejekhine, Philip Nsekesi, Andre' Haydel and the late Don Lewis. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at the Saint Louis Cathedral, 615 Pere Antoine Alley, Vieux Carré, New Orleans, La. on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be at 9:00 A.M. Interment: Saint Louis Cemetery No. 3 3421 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans
