Corp. A. J. Lewis Succumbs at 25
Corp. Albert. J. Lewis, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Harry Lewis of 1347 Northcliffe rd., a veteran of more than five years of army service, died yesterday morning in Walter Reed General Hospital, Washington, D. C.
A graduate of Nottingham High School, Corp. Lewis enlisted in the Air Force in 1943 and during World War 2 served with the Eighth Air Force. Upon discharge he entered Kings Point Military Academy, L. I. He left the school a year and a half later to rejoin the army, this time in the ordnance service.
Corp. Lewis was taken ill last January while in Okinawa. He was sent back to this country where he was hospitalized. He entered Walter Reed Hospital in June.
Besides his parents, surviving are three brothers, all servicemen BUL-1 Harrhy A. Lewis, with the Seabees, is now on the way to Guam; CN Eugene A. Lewis is the the Seabees at San Diego, Calif; and Pvt. Duane A. Lewis is serving at Scott Field Airbase, Ill. Also surviving is a nephew, David Allen Lewis, son of Seabee and Mrs. Harrhy A. Lewis.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fort Myer Chapel, Arlington Cemetery, and burial will be there. The Wastler Funeral Home, 301 E. Capitol St., Washington, D. C., is in charge of arrangements.
