Herb Levy, Jr. passed away on June 20, 2013 at the age of 96.

He was born on February 10, 1917 in Fresno, California to Herbert Levy and Madeline Schuman Levy.

He graduated from Fresno High School in 1934; Stanford University in 1938 and then returned to Fresno where he joined Levy Bros. Insurance and Real Estate, established by his father.

In 1942, Herb joined the United States Army, serving in the European Theater during World War II, rising to the rank of Captain and was honored with the Bronze Star. He was part of the famed Red Ball Express.

After the War, he returned to the family business in Fresno and eventually opened his own office with his father. Herb soon met and married his wonderful wife Frances Wilzinski of Berkeley, California with whom he shared 62 devoted years.

Born into a pioneer Fresno family which settled here in 1874, he had a lifetime interest in Fresno and California history. Herb was a lifelong member of the Fresno Masonic Lodge No. 247 F & AM, the Fresno Scottish Rite Bodies, the Association of Realtors, and the Volunteers of America serving as President. He founded the Alumni Board of the Fresno High School Senate and was active in the PTA, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Always a loyal friend, he maintained a close lifelong relationship with his childhood pals the Rugadabaghs, with whom he shared many escapades and outdoor adventures.

Herb was a devoted husband and father and he spent a lifetime nurturing and caring for his family and friends. A man of impeccable integrity, organization and routine, he maintained an extensive genealogy of the Levy and Schuman families.

Herb was especially devoted to his four grandchildren. He loved to serve them fresh pancakes, waffles, and other epicurean delights. His family will forever cherish his words of wisdom, his sage advice and the solid values by which he lived. They will fondly remember the times spent with him in his kitchen and at the dining table. He leaves an amazing legacy.

Herb was preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances; his sister, Barbara; brother-in-law, Leon Boro.

He is survived by his sons, Marty and wife Marnie of Redondo Beach, Justice Bert Levy and wife MaryLee of Fresno; his four grandchildren, Jessye, Wyatt, Daniel and wife Jill, and David.

A Memorial Service will be held at Temple Beth Israel, 6622 N. Maroa Avenue in Fresno on Friday June 28 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Fresno High Senate Alumni, PO Box 4734, Fresno, Ca 93744-4734.
