MRS. LETCHER TO BE BURIED HERE BESIDE MOTHER
Body Brought to Oakland When Husband's Will Ordered Own Cremation.
The body of Mrs. Helen Letcher, who shot her husband to death and then killed herself in a jealous rage last Saturday in San Jose, arrived in Oakland today and will be buried here beside that of her mother.
The body was exhumed from a San Jose cemetery in which she was buried beside her husband yesterday, when it was discovered that terms of the wealthy garage man's will provided that his ashes be scattered over Mt. Hamilton. Clarence Letcher's remains are at a San Jose undertaking parlor today pending arrangements to carry out the provisions of his will.
Cremation of Letcher's body and scattering of the ashes over portions of the Mt. Hamilton range by airplane has been set for tomorrow.
An estate of $200,000 is bequeathed to various relatives by the terms of Letcher's will. His mother, Mrs. Minnie Letcher, 2923 Ashby avenue, Berkeley, and his sisters the Misses Josephine and Grace, are given $500 each. To the dead wife he bequeathed the household furniture, most of his life insurance and a portion of his real property.
The bulk of the estate goes to George Truman Letcher, 25, a son by a former marriage and a business partner. Illtred Letcher of Oakland, a brother, was omitted by the terms of the will.
Mrs. Letcher's brother, George Permien, lives at 5475 Claremont avenue.
The shooting Saturday occurred over what friends believe was a quarrel regarding alleged attentions of Letcher to another woman.
