LT COL LARRY EUGENE LETCHER, USAF (Ret) 55, of Schertz, Texas, passed away at 5:28 am, Monday, July 29, 2013 at home. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born in Chateauroux, France on September 26, 1957.
He went to South High School in Salina, Kansas and graduated in 1976. He graduated and obtained a BS from Kansas State University in 1980. Then he went on to obtain a MS from Wright-State University in Dayton, Ohio in 1983.
He was a member of the United States Air Force and served 20 years in positions of varying and increasing responsibility culminating in his command of the Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph Air Force Base. He retired honorably from the Air Force in 2001. After his career in the military, he began teaching Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (JROTC) at United High School in Laredo, Texas. Two years later he transferred to San Marcos High School in San Marcos, Texas and retired from teaching in 2013.
Larry was a dedicated and devoted family man. He enjoyed time with his family and rejoiced each time it grew. Some of Larry's interests included playing bass, keyboard, drums, guitar, and composing and recording music. He used these many gifts in the Community Bible Church in Schertz-Cibolo in their music ministry. When not immersed in music he often enjoyed watching classic movies and cherished time with his friends.
The visitation will be held Thursday August 8, 2013 from 5:00PM-9:00PM at the Schertz, Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held Friday August 9, 2013 from 10:30am-12:00pm, also at the Schertz, Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15PM with USAF honors.
So that we may keep Larry's memory and never-ending passion for music alive, the family feels that he would have most wanted to spread his love of music to others who share this passion. We request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Music Ministry of Community Bible Church Schertz-Cibolo, (CBC-Schertz-Cibolo, P.O. Box 603, Cibolo, TX 78108) so that we may always hear the beautiful sound of music that Larry wanted to share with the world.
