William Alfred Letcher
May 30, 1917 - July 8, 2011
William Alfred Letcher was born May 30, 1917, in Grants Pass, Ore., and passed away at the age of 94 in Carmichael, Calif., on July 8, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, June; daughter, Christine Somach; sister, Mary Wallace; brother, Alfred Letcher; and four grandchildren.

A World War II veteran and a UC Berkley graduate, Bill lived for 29 years in Mt. Shasta, Calif., where he developed a large optometry practice and enjoyed the great outdoors. He retired in 1976 and moved to Placerville and later Cameron Park, Calif., where he was active in El Dorado Master Gardeners. He and June traveled extensively all over the world, living life to the fullest. His stories and impromptu recitation of poetry and song will be missed by all.

A private family service will be held in Mt. Shasta and Ashland, Ore., where he will be laid to rest in the family cemetery.
