In 1961, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Army. A graduate from Purdue University, he worked for the Food and Drug Administration of the United States Government as a supervisory chemist. After retiring as Director of the Lab from the FDA in 1996, he became involved for many years with Niagara's tourism lending his charm and selling tours of the area to wide-eyed visitors from all over the world.
