Mrs. Ruth E. Barnes, 87, of 2700 E. Burcham Dr., East Lansing, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 1990, in the Burcham Hills Retirement Center after a long illness.
Born in Gladwin, Aug. 21, 1902, she moved to East Lansing in 1974 from Cadillac. Mrs. Barnes graduated from Michigan State University in 1925. She taught home economics and English in Gladwin for 4 years and then moved to Cadillac where she taught in the Tustin school.
The former Ruth Leonard, she was married to Wendell Barnes, Aug. 10, 1929, in Gladwin. He preceded her in death in October 1959.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Boynton of Rochester; and 2 grandchildren.
Rites were held Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Joel Hurley officiated and burial was in the Highland Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 3-7/1990
