Lydia Leon Bennett died at Providence Hospital on Saturday, December 11th after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
She was born, raised, and lived her entire life in the city that she loved, Mobile. She graduated with honors from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School as a proud member of the class of 1974.
She received her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Psychology from the University of South Alabama and began working in the mental health field as a therapist. She was always empathetic, especially with the underdog, and would go the extra mile to help them. She worked in the needs assessment department of Charter Hospital of Mobile for many years, a job filled with lasting memories and friendships.
In 2000, she began working in sales for MedImmune Inc. Over her ten year career at MedImmune, she was recognized and received numerous distinguished awards including: CEO Club, Top Clinical Marketing Manager and the Highest Volume Award. She excelled at all her jobs, but the job she cherished the most was being a mother, and she did it better than anyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tofey and Marilyn Leon. She is survived by her children, Leslie Johnson, Evan Bennett, Brian Bennett, and Alison Bennett Zellmer (Justin), grandchildren Luke and Lila Zellmer, her brother, Tofey J. Leon III (Caren), sister, Allison Silvio, niece, Lindsay Leon, nephews, Tofey J. Leon IV and KJ Brothers, many cousins and other amazing, dear friends too numerous to mention. The family would like to thank Dr. Tad Beeker, Robin Dunnam, Tracey Jones and the entire staff at Southern Cancer Center for your care and support over the past 9 months. Lydia loved you all dearly. Special thanks also to the McGill-Toolen class of '74 for being there when she needed you the most. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home, (Dauphin St.) on Tuesday, December 14th from 5-8pm with the Rosary at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dominic Church, 4156 Burma Road, on Wednesday, December 15th at 11am with interment at the Catholic Cemetery following the Mass.
