Johann Jacob Leiby was the son of Johann Friedrich "Frederick" Leiby and Susanna Yerian (also seen as Jurgon or Jerger due to a transcription error of the "I" in her father's name (Irion) into a "J") of Berks County, Pennsylvania.

His known siblings are all linked below.

He married to Rosina Dunkel.

In 1815 he built the stone farmhouse at the old Leiby homestead.

He lived to be 96 years old. At the age of 89, he gave an account of "The Leiby Family History" in a book entitled History of Lehigh County.

Leiby Genealogy and History: 1565-1996 reports that his children are listed in Miscellaneous Book 13, page 628, in the Recorder's Office of Berks County, in which there is recorded a release to the executor of the estate of Johann Jacob Leiby. Based on the Leiby book, there is some question of whether the "Jacob Leiby" linked below as his son is accurate - the Leiby book indicates that the Jacob Leiby listed as Johann Jacob's son in the release was born 1788, died June 10, 1870, Windsor Township, with a wife, Elizabeth, born 1790. However, Floyd's Northumberland County Genealogy lists the Jacob Leiby linked below as the son of Jacob Leiby and Margaretha Dunkel, but otherwise correctly names the siblings who are children of Johann Jacob and Rosina Dunkel. Some records list the marriage date for Johann Jacob and Rosina as 2 Aug 1791, so that may point against the Jacob born in 1788 as being their child. The truth is unclear.
