"Anna Lehr was born in Germany in 1843. She came to Michigan with her parents in 1849. After a time, the family came to Whitewater, where Anna was married to Moss Anderson in 1862. Their home was here for the next thirty-five years, where a large family of children were born, eight of whom are still living; and doing it in a worthy and useful way, in obedience to the influence and training of one of the best of mothers. Mrs. Anderson was one of that company of capable, virtuous, industrious, Christian women, who are the blessing of the home and the salt of the community when they become wives and mothers.
The husbands, they praise them;
and the children rise up and call them blessed.
Mrs. Anderson went to Beloit in 1896 to be near her children. She was in usual health until near the end. The body was brought to Whitewater to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Frank Cox. Sunday afternoon it was taken to the cemetery chapel where a short service was held, conducted by her former pastor, Rev. E.C. Barnard. The husband, though old and feeble, was able to be present, together with six of the children: the three daughters, Mrs. Hulburt, Mrs. Hegeman, Mrs. Williams, with their husbands, the two sons Will and Frank, with their wives, all of Beloit. Several granddaughters were also with them. Two daughters, Mrs. Appleton of Boston, Mass; and Mrs. Friedag of Freeport, IL, were not able to be present. Mrs. Faust, a sister, of Milwaukee; Mrs. Colton, of Palmyra; and Mrs. Julia Anderson, of Janesville, relatives, were also present. The two sons and four grandsons, two sons of Mrs. Cox and two of Mrs. Hulburt, acted as pall bearers. The burial was in Hillside Cemetery."
