Following her husband's service in the Army Air Corps in England during World War II, they settled in Greensboro. As a devoted wife and homemaker, she raised two children and was invaluable to her husband in building several successful businesses through the years. She was an active volunteer in organizations such as the American Red Cross and the Greensboro Symphony Guild, in which she served as President during the late 1960s. She was an accomplished seamstress who often created beautiful clothes for friends and family, and her love of travel, dancing, flower gardening and reading made her quite the lively conversationalist. She had a knack for telling a good story and could recount in great detail the many wonderful experiences cherished in the company of her family and wonderful friends in Greensboro, Roaring Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, and John's Island in Vero Beach, Florida.
A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends at 2 p.m., Friday, May 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC. The family will greet friends following the service in the Virginia Gilmer Room of the church.
She is predeceased by her husband, Marvin Lucien Legare; her daughter, Virginia Ray Legare; her parents, John and Edna Begley; her brother, Ronald Begley; and her sister, Frieda Wilson. She is survived by her son, Marvin Gaines Legare and his wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Leslie Morgan Legare, Marvin Gaines Legare, Jr., Gregory Legare Pleasants, Laura Gaines Pleasants, Philip Lucien Pleasants; and one great-granddaughter, Violet.
