COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Charles Wilton Leftwich, 83, of Nashville, formerly of Buffalo Valley, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Hickory Chapel of Woodbine Funeral Home in Nashville and from 11 a.m. until time of
services on Thursday at the funeral home in Cookeville.
Mr. Leftwich died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at his home. He was born July 24, 1926, in Buffalo Valley to the late Rosco and Henrietta McDonald Leftwich and was their last surviving child. Mr. Leftwich enjoyed the times he was able to visit the Buffalo Valley area. He was a graduate of Tennessee Tech University and retired from the State of Tennessee Department of General Services in 1983 after
35 years.
He was a World War II veteran, having served as PVT in HQ CO 2nd BN 1st from Dec. 14, 1944, to Nov. 20, 1946. He received an honorable discharge and the following honors: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal and Army of Occupation of Medal Japan.
His family includes a son and daughterinlaw, Michael C. and Beth A. Leftwich of Lewisburg; a grandson, Brooks M. Leftwich of Lewisburg; and special friend Sue Stout of Franklin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Watts Leftwich; a sister, Emmaleen Leftwich; and six brothers, Billy, Ray, Fred, Robert, Henry Frank and an infant twin brother.
