Sam E. Leftwich
COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Sam E. Leftwich, 92, of Madison Heights, Mich., formerly of Cookeville, were held at noon today, Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial followed in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Leftwich passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, in St. John Macomb Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights.
He was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Buffalo Valley to the late Riley and Frona Anderson Leftwich.
Mr. Leftwich served as a sergeant in the Army during World War II and received the Good Conduct Medal. He married Frances Holmes on Feb. 24, 1947, in Rossville, Ga. He retired from Ford Motor Company. He was a devoted, loving husband, father and brother.
His family includes his wife of 64 years, Frances Hodges Leftwich of Madison Heights; a son, Glen Leftwich of Madison Heights; a daughter, Kathryn Leftwich of Naples, Fla.; a niece, Betty Collins of Cookeville; and two nephews, Larry Bandy and wife Brenda of Cookeville and Paul Blair of Granville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertie Blair and Essie Bandy, and a brother, Mack Leftwich.
Bro. Herbert Leftwich officiated at the services.
