Mona Almond, 76, of Rockford, IL, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011, in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in 1935 in Miltonvale, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse and Mona Lee. Mona married Joseph "Gene" Almond on July 16, 1952 in Rockford; he passed away in 2006. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Mona was the most generous and kind woman, she had a great love for her children and grandchildren. Whether she was volunteering at school or going to sporting events, she was always there. Mona was an active volunteer, whether it was PA Peterson, PTA or babysitting for her grandkids. She was a wonderful baker, loved to bowl and knit slippers for all her kids. She thought of everyone else before herself.

Survivors include children, Nancy (Dave) Smith of Machesney Park, Ned Almond and Linda (George) Williams of Rockford, and Lois (Allen) Shores of Rockton; grandchildren, Noelle (Brian) Crain, Sarah (Mark) Swanson, Brianne (Aaron) McKnight, Kelly, Randy, Steven and Brady Olson, Taylor Williams, Jacob Nesmith and Riley Shores; great-grandchildren, Paighton and Noah Crain, Xander and Aden Swanson, Tori and Ari McKnight, Jordan and Kyleigh Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; and her special baby, her chocolate lab, Madie. Predeceased also by her parents and brothers, Marc, Paul, Carl and Bill Lee.
