Mabel Lee Bale, age 82, of Decorah, Iowa, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah of complications from a stroke.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday January 12, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah. Rev. Joan Mau will officiate. Inurnment will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.
Friends may call after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.
Mabel Lee Bale was born April 13, 1925 in Wolf Point, Montana, the daughter of Albert and Mabel (Sliper) Lee. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point. Mabel attended Wolf Point High School, graduating with the class of 1943, and then earned her B.A. at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1948.
She was united in marriage to John C. Bale August 13, 1950 in Wolf Point, Montana. This union was blessed with one daughter, Ruth.
Mabel taught biology and home economics at Ulen High School in Ulen, Minnesota from 1948 to 1950; she was a secretary at the office of the Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, from 1950 to 1953; and she was an Assistant Circulation Librarian at Luther College from 1953 to 1956.
Her memberships included Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she was a charter member, and the Luther College Women's Club. Mabel and her husband, John, were the recipients of the Pioneer Memorial Award from Luther College.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Mabel, and three brothers: Harry, Cyrus and Roger Lee.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John of Decorah; their daughter, Ruth Bale Lippincott (and her husband, Joe) of Alburtis, Pennsylvania; and two brothers: Byron Lee (and his wife, Lois) of Seattle, Washington and Aldon Lee of Billings, Montana.
