Daniel Orland Lee passed away August 13, 2012 in West Sacramento, CA of natural causes. Daniel was born in 1959 in Lawton, OK to Orland Bernt Lee and Nona Headley Lee.
He grew up in Brookings, SD with his sister, Diane, and brother, Jeff. He graduated from Brookings High School in 1977 and South Dakota State University in 1982, majoring in English and History.
Dan was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brookings in 1981, and married Janet Gardner there in 1983. They welcomed son, John, in 1990 and soon moved to Woodland, CA, whe

In California, Dan worked for Yolo Community Care Continuum and Yolo County Department of Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health.
He suffered a severe health crisis in 2006, but battled back to living independently during the past year.
Dan's hobbies included stamp collecting, reading history and biographies, playing Dungeons and Dragons, Go, and war games, and attending his kids' concerts.
He was a member of the Sacramento-Davis Go Club, Davis Gamers Club, and Yolo County Democratic Party. He had a passion for discussing current events and politics, and a deep love of family. Despite many obstacles and challenges, he never lost his positive and optimistic spirit.
Daniel is survived by his children, John Lee and Mary Lee of Woodland, CA; his mother, Nona Lee; sister, Diane (Lee) Krogstad and husband, Dan, of Spearfish; brother, Jeff Lee and his wife, JoAnn, of Brookings, one niece and three nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins in eastern and western South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his father, O.B. Lee and nephew, Davis Lee, as well as close gamer friends, Richard Eaton and Gary Stagliano.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 31st at 10 a.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City with inurnment at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
Memorials may be directed to any community food assistance program, or other charity of the donor's choice.
