Rena Mae Chauvin, 90, of East Bernard passed away on June 21, 2011 in Wharton, Texas. Rena was born in China, Texas (near Beaumont) on May 3, 1921. Her deceased parents were Aldus Ledger and Eva Mae Ferguson Ledger. She graduated from Hampshire-Fannett High School in 1938 after having been promoted past one grade.
She and her husband, O.F., moved to East Bernard in 1951 where they opened a dairy farm west of town. Rena was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 226, for many years. She was a talented seamstress and made many wedding ensembles for brides and bridesmaids. Rena was also an avid doll collector and made many of the clothes for the antique dolls in her collection.
She was an avid reader, and the East Bernard Library kept her supplied with books until her death. All five of her children and four of her grandchildren graduated from East Bernard High School.
Rena Chauvin is survived by her five children, Charles and wife Linda of Austin, Robert and wife Sharon of Gladewater; Faye Chauvin Stone of Corpus Christi, Susie Chauvin of Austin and Rosie Chauvin Balusek and husband Johnnie of East Bernard. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Ledger Ray of Beaumont. Rena had eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Ledger Hampshire, and three brothers, James D., Arthur L. and Vernon Ledger.
Rena was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and at her request her ashes will be interred with her husband in the Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard.
