A distressing accident took place Wednesday afternoon of last week when Victor Lebkisher shot and killed his little brother John Arthur Lebkisher living one and one half miles east of the city on the Kenaga farm. The shooting took place at about 1 o'clock and the unfortunate boy passed away at 5:45 the same evening. He was only 6 years of age while the brother who did the shooting is 10 years. The parents are Mr and Mrs William Lebkisher.
The affair was entirely an accident. They gun from which the shot was fired was standing on the porch and it was not supposed to be loaded. The 2 brothers were playing in the yard and they were going in the house when the older brother saw the gun. He tried to pick it up but it was almost too heavy. He succeeded in slanting it toward the little brother and as he did so the trigger caught in his clothing and the gun was discharged. The contents of the gun struck the lad in the arm pit and he was fatally wounded. Dr ML Smith was called and he summoned Dr Robert Henderson. The two worked with the boy for sometime but of no avail and death finally resulted. An examination proved that the shot had perforated the lungs, the abdomen and the liver and the lad bled internally.
The little boy seemed to realize what he had done and his grief was intense. The sorrow of the family was pitiful.
