Springtown—Zack Leatherwood, 76, of Springtown, died Saturday, Dec 21, 1996, at a Fort Worth hospital.
Mr. Leatherwood was born in the Poolville area on Dec 6, 1920. He spent his early years on farms near Poolville and Toto with his father, seven brothers and two sisters, having lost his mother at 12 years old. Mr. Leatherwood served his country during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He married Levia Howard, his wife of 54 years, on June 28, 1942, in Weatherford. To this union were four daughters, and one son, who loved him dearly. Mr. Leatherwood worked at the Swift Meat Packing Company for more than 20 years while farming and raising cattle. After the Swift Company closed in 1968, he built, owned and operated Leatherwood's Feed and Grocery Store three miles west of Sprintown. He was a member of the Agnes Baptist Church in Agnes, Texas.
Mr. Leatherwood was a kind and loving friend to everyone he met. He was the kind of man who generated compassion with a personality that causes lifelong memories. Mr. Leatherwood said what he meant, did what he said and his word was his bond. He was the kind of man every boy wants to be and the kind of man every old man wishes he had been. Mr. Leatherwood trusted Jesus Christ as his eternal Savior and is resting in His presence today.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Roger and Freda Lowe of Fort Worth, Mike and Zackuline Tomlin of Springtown, Larry and Carolyn Hulsey of Springtown and Lonnie and Nowanah Corley of Azle; one son and daughter-in-law, Maynard and Beverly Leatherwood of Trophy Club; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Hubert C. Leatherwood of Springtown, Harry Leatherwood of Poolville, John Leatherwood of Poolville and MJ Leatherwood of Poolville; and one sister, Rena Lynch of Azle.
Funeral Services were held at Agnes Baptist Church at 10 am Tuesday, Dec 24. Interment was at the Springtown Cemetery.
White's Funeral Home of Springtown was in charge of the arrangements.
