EAST GALESBURG - David R. Learned, 56, East Galesburg, died at 1:53 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Rushville, the son of Durward Roy and Delphene Elizabeth Gillenwater Learned.
He married Carmen A. Schoonover on Nov. 8, 1986, in the Congregational Church in Galesburg. She survives of East Galesburg.
Also surviving are brothers Dayle (Debora) Learned of East Galesburg, Kenneth Learned of Galesburg and Delbert (Angie) Learned of Colorado Springs, Colo., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and one brother, Donald.
He was raised and educated in Coldbrook and attended Galesburg High School. He received his associate degree in auto body repair from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.
He served in the United States Army from March 17, 1972, until March 13, 1975, during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter and Marksman Medals.
He worked as an auto body repairman at Corner Collision for about nine years and Bates Auto Body for about seven years.
He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 of Galesburg.
He was an avid NASCAR fan.
Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville. Cremation rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial that will be designated later.
