Thomas James Learned passed away at his Ojai home on Saturday, March 27, 2004, after a hard-fought battle with ALS.
Born in Lompoc, California on May 11, 1950 to parents, Roy and Janette Learned, Tom attended both Fullterton and Chico State prior to settling in Santa Barbara, where he lived for 30 years. Tom made his living in the auto sales industry, eventually opening his own auto business. An active sportsman, Tom was active in Santa Barbara softball leagues. He also loved fishing, biking and found his true passion in golf.
A loving father to his daughters, Alanna Lee and Ivy Rae Learned, of Santa Barbara, California, Tom is also survived by parents Roy and Janette Learned of Lompoc, brother John Learned and family of La Caņada, sister Jane Withrow and family of Ojai, sister Judy Meisinger and family of Ojai, and former wife Varni Learned.
Tom had an incredible zest for life and will be missed by everyone he has touched. His spirit will always be with us and we are grateful for the time we had with him.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 305 E. Anapamu Street, Santa Barbara. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that contributions be made to Hospice at Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association (1996 Eastman Ave., Ventura, CA 93003) or First Tee-Central Coast (P.O. Box 846, Santa Barbara, CA 93102), an educational program for youth golfers.
