Gertrude Lear Beattie, daughter of Charles E. and Effie Manifold Lear, was born December 21, 1900 in Springview, Nebraska and died December 1, 1988 at the Bethesda Care Center in Ainsworth, Nebraska.
She attended St. Mary's Academy in O'Neill, Nebraska and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. In 1922 she was united in marriage with Dr. Leo R. Beattie of Lincoln. They lived in Springview until 1937 when Dr. Beattie moved his dental practice to Ainsworth.
Mrs. Beattie was a member of the Congregational Church, P.E.O., the American Legion Auxiliary, and was honored as a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her father was a pioneer homeasteader and county attorney of Keya Paha County, Nebraska, where the Lear homestead has remained in the family for over 100 years. During the 63 years of her marriage, Mrs. Beattie worked with and supported her husband in a wide range of eandeavors in behalf of the community, the state and the University of Nebraska.
Mrs. Beattie was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son, Charles Leo. She is survived by two sons, Dr. John Lear Beattie of Berry, Iowa and Richard Leon Beattie of Salinas, California; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held December 6, 1988 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Ainsworth. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Springview.
