Birth: 1833
Death: Aug. 21, 1880

The Enterprise
Afton, Iowa, August 26, 1880

DIED LEAK-Mrs. Catharine A., wife of Samuel G. Leak.
Aug. 21, 1880, aged 45 years 8 months and 9 days.

Deceased was born in Montgomery county, Indiana. She came to Iowa with her parents, John and Rachel Camplon, in 1841, who settled in Marion county. In 1854 she was married to Samuel G. Leak, who has been for years a prominent and worthy citizen of Union county. At the age of 11 shemade a profession of religion and joined the M. E. Church. After her marriage she and her husband were members of the U. B. church for some years, but lately they have been members of the M. E. church.

Sister Leak was a very amiable, christian woman. Kind and modest in her deportment, well worthy the high esteem which was pleaced on her by all who knew her. As a christian her life was consistent with her profession. Having been very devoted to the Master’s cause during all of her life of toil, He honored her with His presence as her dissolution came on. The closing scene was one of triumph. She said to her sorrowing husband, “Jesus is with me.” “I am ready to die,” “Death has no terror for me.” and many like expressions; being fully conscious to the last. She called her children one by one and urged them to follow her example and the techings she had given them, thus retaining to the very last an earnest desire for the salvation of her children, and requesting them to meet her in the “better land.”

Though suffering intensely during most of her illness, yet, at the last, she calmly and peacefully closed her eyes in death, to open them where sorrow and pain never comes. She leaves her husband and six children to mourn her departure. May they all live and die n the hope of a blessed immortality.

The funeral was largely attended. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chas. E. Linn, assisted by Rev. D. Funk. She was buried in the cemetery at Afton.
