Bernice Bales, 86, of the Brashiers Chapel community died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at her residence.

Mrs. Bales was born March 12, 1926, in Marshall County to Thomas J. and Minnie Coker Leak. She was married to Seasel Herbert Bales who preceded her in death on Oct. 25. 1995.

She was a lifetime resident of Arab and a 1945 graduate of Arab High School. She was also a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a member of the Old Brashiers Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Don Bales, Keith and Nancy Bales and Tom and Sandra Bales of Arab; four grandchildren and in-laws: Wendi and Jason Blackmon, Mandy and Josh Garmany, Jennifer and Josh Buffaloe and Mark Bales; two stepgrandchildren and in-law: Dusty and Tiffany Larkin and Miranda Larkin; four great-grandchildren: Anna Claire Garmany, Addison Garmany, Ella Grace Blackmon and Hadley Blackmon; brother: Donald Leak of Arab; and sister: Farah Harper of Arab.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

The funeral was at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Junior Plunkett officiating. Burial was in Brashiers Chapel Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Mark Bales, Jason Blackmon, Josh Buffaloe, Frank Coston, Josh Garmany and Dusky Larkin.
