Nellie's grandson, Dale F. Bernritter, 14, died on July 12, 1964. The account of his death in the St. Marys Star, July 30, 1964, said he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Bernritter, Tracyton, Washington. He drowned while on an outing in the river in the Olympic Mountains. His birthdate was given as April 24, 1950.

Dies July 23 in Hospital at Topeka

Services were held Saturday in the Verschelden Funeral Home for Mrs. Nellie E. Bernritter, 74, who died Thursday in a Topeka hospital following a 12-day illness.

Mrs. Bernritter was born May 9, 1890, in the Greenwood community, Wabaunsee County.
She was married to John Bernritter on Feb. 19, 1908, in Topeka, and they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1958. Mr. Bernritter died June 3, 1960.

Mrs. Bernritter was a member of the St. Marys Methodist Church, a charter member of the WSCA of the church, a charter member of the Farmers Wife Club which was established in 1913; and a member of the St. Marys Literary Club for many years.

Survivors include four sons: John C. Bernritter, Harveyville; Donald R. Bernritter, Tracyton, Wash.; William L. Bernritter, Bremerton, Wash.; and Frank J. Bernritter of Longview, Wash.; seven daughters: Mrs. Bessie C. Still, Fair Oaks, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Crawford, Route three, North Topeka; Mrs. N. Irene Meyer, Route eight, Topeka; Mrs. Frances Flanary, Maple Hill; Mrs. E. Priscilla Still, Hampton, Va.; Mrs. A. Philomena Ellis, St. Marys; Mrs. Helen L. Graham, Topeka.
Three sisters: Mrs. Mable Franklin, Byars, Okla.; Mrs. Frances Smelser, Topeka; Mrs. Dot Spader, Kansas City, Kans.; 27 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

Interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery, Wabaunsee County.
