Lucile, 96, of Colchester, Illinois, formerly of Manchester, Michigan, died on Saturday. Lucile was the daughter of Rudolph G. Sr. and Thema P. (Schnirring) Layher.
She had two younger brothers and one younger sister. The family moved to Michigan in the 1920's where her father taught school. On March 6, 1955 she married Walter A. Hinderer at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Saline, MI, where she had been a member for 25 years.
After her marriage, she transferred her membership to St. John's United Church of Christ (Rogers Corners) in Chelsea, MI. There she served on the church council and taught Sunday School for many years.
Lucile is a graduate of Saline High School and Michigan State Normal College (EMU) where she got her Master's Degree in teaching. After teaching school for two years she later went to Cleary College and became the deans' secretary at the University of Michigan for many years.
She loved to read and to travel, visiting all of the 48 contiguous United States and most of the Canadian provinces.
Lucile is survived by Walter, her husband of 57 years, and two sons: John W. (Lori) Hinderer from Jackson MI and George W. (Kay) Hinderer of Colchester, IL. She is also survived by a grandson, Bradley J. Hinderer from Toledo, OH, a sister, Elizabeth Dechert of Bradenton, FL, and a brother, John Layher of Saline, MI, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Rudy Layher, Jr.
