Georgina Lawson Cox, 88, of Kamiah, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006 at Clearwater Health and Rehabiliation Center in Orofino, from complications of a stroke she had last May.
Georgina was born April 3, 1917, on a wheat and cattle ranch in the Mayview District near Pomeroy, to George and Noble Faith Lawson, both deceased.
Georgina rode a horse to school when she was in grade school. In her high school years, she boarded to Pomeroy and graduated from Pomeroy High in 1935.
On Nov 27, 1935 she married Delbert Cox in Walla Walla.
Delbert worked for the U. S. Forest Service for 33 years, retirig in 1966. They moved many times during that period. Some of the places they lived were O'Hara, Fenn Ranger Station, State Creek C.C. Camp, Grangeville Bungalow, Lolo Ranger Station, ad Remount Station near French Town, Mont.
He finally retired in Missoula, Mont., as the regional fire control officer. They later moved to Orofino where he worked for the Clearwater Potlatch Timber Protective Association and Clearwater County Civil Defense director. Delbert died in 1997.
Georgina was an avid reader and enjoyed arts, crafts and especially hand sewing. Georgina always said her mother gave her instructions in all types of sewing and her father taught her horsemanship and farming. She liked horsemanship the best and sewing was reserved for the end of the day and bad weather.
Georgina was a 65-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and longtime member of PEO. She was very proud of their charitable work.
Surviving relatives are her sister-in-laws, Maxine and Nora Cox, brothers-in-law, Tom, Gary, Bob, and Bill Cox, all of Washington and Idaho.
Lauren Graves of Grangeville has been Georgina's friend, companion and support person for the last eight years.
