Doris Lawson Calvert, 76, wife of Rev. Dr. Carrol Calvert, of 1820 Mt. Lebanon Road, Pauline, S.C., died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at her home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Calvert was born April 10, 1930 in Buffalo, S.C. a daughter of the late Fletcher and Bessie Whitehead Lawson. She was a graduate of North Greenville College and Limestone College, she received Master Degrees from Converse College, Fayetteville State University, University of North Carolina and also studied at the University of Minnesota, Clemson Unit and University of Mississippi. Mrs. Calvert was a retired school teacher having served in Greenville, Spartanburg and Cumberland County, North Carolina school systems. Mrs. Calvert was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. She was a gifted musician and a gifted artist.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Caron Calvert Clark and husband David of Spartanburg; and a granddaughter, Weslie Clark of Spartanburg. Mrs. Calvert was predeceased by a sister, Clarese Morrow.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. Randy Pettit and the Rev. Melvin Shelton. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 Thursday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 352, Newberry, S.C. 29108-0352. The family is at the home, 1820 Mt. Lebanon Road, Pauline, S.C. 29374.
