Edward Eugene Lawson, 73, husband of Mrs. Edith McKinney Lawson of Route 3, Union, died Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Lawson was born in Pacolet in Spartanburg County on March 26, 1912 a son of Adolphus Clarence and Mary Lillian Steen Lawson. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Bill, Howard and Fred. He was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. Mr. Lawson was retired from Torrington Company in the Maintenance Department and the Maintenance Department of the Union County School System.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Mildred) Reynolds of Route 3, Union; one sister, Mrs. Verona Beheler of Union; four grandchildren, Beth Holcombe, James M. Reynolds, Terri Jean Moore and Debra Jane Boulware; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Reverend Frank Inman. Burial will be in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Lawson, Billy and Stephen Beheler, Dean and Wayne Tollison and Frank Shrader.
The following are ask to assemble at the funeral chapel Friday at 2:45 p.m. to form honorary escort: Wilbur Smith, Gene Toney, Bob Arrowood, John T. Belue, John W. Holcombe, Dr. David Keith, Dr. Harold Hope, Dr. Kent Switzer, Doug Austin, Bill Whitehead, F.A. Crompton and Jesse Davis.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9.
The family is at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Beth Holcombe, Route 3, Bobo Street, Union.
The S.R. Holcombe Funeral has charge of the arrangememts.
