Odessa,died Monday,April 21,1997
in A nursing center in Texarkana.
Mrs.Abernethy was born August 20,
1906 in Loving,Texas, and had
lived in Texaskana for the past
She was a retired science teacher
and a member of Hickory St.Baptist
Church.She was preceded in death
by her husband,the Rev.James A.
Abernethy in 1981.She was a graduate
of Texas Tech and graduated with
a Masters Degree from Southwestern
Theological Seminary.After leaving
Seminary,Elsie and Bro.James served
in Ralls,Texas;Mountain Air,M.M.;
Truth or Conequences,N.M.;and
Cresent Park Baptist Church in
Survivors include sister and brother
in law,Osta and Maurice Hickenson of
Texarkana,Arkansas;brother and sister
in law,Dr.Ben and Bea Lawrence of
Dallas;niece,Fran Dicken and husband
Jim of Denver,Colorado;nephews,Jim
Hickenson of Texarkana,Timothy
Hickenson of El Dorado,Arkansas,and
Joe Woods and wife Laura of Lubbock,
Texas,and all of her Church family
at Crescent Park Baptist Church.
Services will be at 3p.m.Wednesday
at Crescent Park Baptist Church
with the Rev.Craig Turner,the Rev.
Barry Owens and the Rev.Rick
Romine officiating.Burial will be
at Sunset Memorial Gardens under
the direction of Hubbard Kelly
Corzine,Joe Johnston,Bob Radabauch,
Gene Pierce,Bud Lee,Jerry Romine,
Glenn Reeves and Regis Whitefield.
