Mrs. Joseph Atkins, 68, a resident of Rhinecliff for the last 45 years, died Tuesday in the Northern Dutchess Health Center after a two-week illness. The former Miss Daisy Lawrence, she was born in Alligerville, February 11, 1882 and was the daughter of the late Richard and Martha Lawrence. She was a member of the Rhinecliff Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Woman's club of that church and a member of the Woman's Society for Christian Service. Her husband died two years ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Benjamin Dedrick and Mrs. Frederick Joy of Rhinecliff; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Hargrave of Poughkeepsie and Mrs. Michael Cusic of Trenton, N. J.; six brothers, William Lawrence of Albany; Dewey Lawrence of Hudson, coroner of Columbia county; Frederick and Roscoe Lawrence of Newark, N. J., and a granddaughter, Judith Ann Joy.
There were funeral services at the home this Thursday at two o’clock. The Rev. Raymond Ward, minister of the Rhinebeck, Rhinecliff and Hillside Methodist Churches, officiated. Burial was in the family plot in Rhinebeck, directed by William E. White.
Bearers were Roswell Cole, Oscar Allen, Stephen Briggs, Lyman Allen, Lester Trowbridge and Harvey Holsapple. The Rhinebeck Gazette, July 20, 1950
