Central Luzon, Philippines
Ten school years ago, two other teachers and myself had our students create a website on the 192nd Tank Battalion. The battalion was part of the 1st Provisional Tank Group in the Philippine Islands. Their tanks were serviced by 17th Ordnance. On Monday, March 9, 2009 we will update the website and add Hayden R. Lawrence's name to 17th Ordnance. We just received a roster of the 17th Ordnance this past week. It allows us to add the names of the men we could not identify.
It appears Lawrence went into the jungle after the surrender of Bataan on April 9, 1942 and fought as a guerilla. He was executed on 23 Sept. 43 by the Japanese after being captured.
Note: Hayden R. Lawrence Upper Elementary School in Deville, Louisiana , was named after him
Here is the link to 17th Ordnance.
I just thought you might be interested in knowing this.
