Services for Cleta L. Dewitt will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Alexandria with Reverends Tim Neustifter and Henry Blount officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Ball.
Mrs. Dewitt, 91, of Alexandria, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at her residence.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Alexandria and a member and past president of the U.M.W. She was a founding member and past president of THE BETA XI Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma who established the "Cleta Dewitt Excellence in Student Teaching Scholarship" in her honor. She was also a member of the PEO, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and Poland Homemakers Club. Mrs. Dewitt taught first grade at Poland High School for over twenty years and retired from teaching in 1975.
Mrs. Dewitt was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Betty Fowlkes Lawrence; brothers, Harold Lawrence and Ray Lawrence; and sister, Edith L. Brown.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 67 years, Franklin Dewitt; two daughters, Betty D. Myers and husband Ellis of Atlanta GA and Edith D. Buchanan and husband Jim of Dennison, TX; three grandchildren, Keith Myers and wife Stephanie of Boston MA, Scott Myers and wife Christy of Smyrna, GA; and Justin Buchanan and wife Michelle of Pineville.
