Albert was born at home in Rockfield, Ky to Albert B. and Clyde A. (Sandage) Lawrence, the youngest of nine children.

He grew up on the family farm where he learned the values of hard work and integrity principles which guided his own life and consequently those of his family.

Albert died Sunday, at the age of 78.

When he was a tool and die maker at Chrysler Corp., Albert began growing roses on an extra lot next to his home. He sold plants to friends, neighbors and people who stopped when they saw the beautiful flowers.

From that seed grew Buck Creek Nursery & Landscape Co., in Wanamaker, Indiana which he owned and operated for more than 50 years.

While many nurseries purchase stock plants, Mr. Lawrence propagated plants and shrubs, growing new ones from portions of existing plants.

He used his extensive knowledge to create landscape architectural drawings and garden designs for custumers.

Mr. Lawrence met his second wife, Bonnie at a square dance for singles, where he was an instructor. They married December 30, 1994.

He was a avid motorcyclist, and a stickler for riders using helmets and bikes having crash bars.

Albert joined the Army at the age of 17, and went on to become a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, 225th Fighter Division, even though he was color blind.

He was Past master of the Acton Lodge of Freemasons; a member of Nurseryman's Association; Blue River Motorcycle Club; Acton Cemetery board member and a member of the Acton United Medthodist Church.

Mr. Lawrence was the father of two daugters: Victoria Carver-Vennetti and Connie Fields. Grandfather of seven, and grandfather of five.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Alice (Byrne) Lawrence on February 8, 1986.

Also preceding him in death was his son, Steven W. Lawrence; daughter, Melanie Johnson; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Lawrence and grandson, Joshua Johnson.
