Chief Machinist Mate, U.S. Navy, World War II-Chief Lawrence was killed in action on 8-23-1943 while serving in the North Atlantic.

Chief Lawrence is the son of Mrs. Myra E. Lawrence of 525 Van Buren Street in Peoria, Illinois, and the husband of Mrs. Thelma May Lawrence of 415 Barker Street in West Barker in Peoria, and the father of one son, Groce Jr., in the Army in Florida, and two daughters, Miss Delores, and Miss Lois at home. He does leave five other brothers, George, Ernest, Paul, Louis, and Robert. He did attend Peoria H.S. for a couple of years.

Awards: Purple Heart Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal with One Battle Star, European Campaign Medal with One Battle Star, Navy Good Conduct Medal, 4th Award.
