This monument is erected in Memory of a dear departed wife by a husband who tenderly loved her in life, deeply lamented her in death, and holds in sad still soothing remembrance the intelligence which animated her bright form, the virtues which adorned her heart and the the affection with which she doated (sic) on him who is left to mourn her loss.
They who have felt the bitter pangs of such a separation will drop a tear of sympathy over this urn. For it is sacred to the remains of one who was all that the fond heart of him could wish for in a wife, Longum Carissina Vale.
In Memory of Eliza Wells, the wife of John Wells, Esqr., and daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Lawrence. She was born on the 16th Septr., 1775, and departed this life on a visit at Newtown on the 17th October, 1812. Her pure spirit has flown to God who gave it; much did He give and much indeed hath He taken away, but blessed be the name of the Lord.
