Ruth (Latimer) Allen, 86, of Manchester, departed this life Wednesday (May 16, 2001) at an area convalescent home after a brief illness. Born in South Coventry, March 7, 1915, daughter of the late Eugene and Nettie (Colburn) Latimer, she was raised in South Coventry and had been a resident of Manchester since the late 1930's. Prior to retiring in 1980, Ruth had been employed by the State of Connecticut Dept. of Consumer Protection, and had previously worked at the State Dept. of Civil Defense and the State Dept. of Economic Development. She was a member of Vernon United Methodist Church and loved to cook for her family.
Ruth is survived by her daughter and son, Joan R. Taylor of Rocky Hill and John L. Allen of Manchester; two granddaughters, Cynthia L. Brennan and Deborah Taylor Foote, both of Manchester; four great-grandchildren, Carly, Christopher, and Robert Foote, and Shane Arnold.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 19, 10:30 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester with burial to follow in the East Cemetery, Manchester. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc. of Greater Hartford, 2550 U.S. Rte. 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
