Mary E. Baker, 83, of 1004 Wiley Blvd. NW, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha from complications of COPD.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Fred Darbonne. Burial: Tioga Cemetery, Rose Hill. Friends may visit Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday after 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial: 1 p.m., Tioga Cemetery, Rose Hill, by Chaplain Kay Mineck.

Mary is survived by one daughter and one son, both of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; Mary’s siblings, Raymond, Carlos, Howard, Hicklin, Glendola and Juanita; grandson, Joseph Paul; and Walter’s siblings, Raymond, Milo, Laura, Arthur and Wallace.

Mary was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Mahaska County, to Hicklin and Elvira May Howe Lathrop. She married Walter Baker on March 16, 1945, in Oskaloosa. Mary worked as a repair operator at Rockwell for 36 years, retiring in 1988.

Mary was a member of Cedar Christian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and playing in the pinochle card club. Mary was the caretaker for all of her immediate and extended family, and she was the best mom and grandma ever.
