ST. PARIS - John F. Lathberry, 91, of St. Paris, passed away on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, in his residence. Born on April 2, 1920, in Lena, Ohio, John was the son of the late Fred Monroe and Mary Ellen (Jordan) Lathberry. He married Retha A. Anderson on Aug. 19, 1941, and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2001.
John is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Juva and Robert Crabtree of Lena, and a stepson, Bobby Mick of Washington Courthouse. He was proud to be the patriarch of five generations, three ways. He is survived by two grandchildren, Kim (Dan) Cecil, and John (Susie) Crabtree, both of St. Paris; four great-grandchildren, Stacy (Jere) Lowe of Colorado, Cristin (Nathan) Gildow of Amelia, Ohio, Shaun Crabtree and Jason Crabtree of St. Paris; and three great-great-grandchildren; Lily Lowe, Evan Gildow and Chloe Crabtree. He is also survived by nine step-grandchildren, Mike, Keith, Patty, Latonda, Pearl, Neil, Edith, Kenny and Danny, all of the Washington Courthouse area; and numerous step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two stepsisters, Charlotte and Virgina; and a step-grandson, Marc.
John formerly attended the St. Paris Church of the Nazarene and was retired from Le Roi Dresser, Sidney. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with the Rev. Ed Sollenberger of the Lena Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery.
